Fics like teach me how you burn

"Let me make this clear, Doctor," Simon says, his voice low, a timbre above a growl. "No olive branch needed. We're not friends, and we're not going to be. We're both just counting days until this…" He gestures vaguely between them, "is all over. You don't need to try and be nice, or placate me. I don't want it. All I want is for you to stop trying to kill yourself. I want you to live, until the end of your contract, and then I want to go right back to where I came from." Grace's throat is tight. "You want to go back to those murderers?" -or- After a violent attack from militant group Eden that left him on the brink of death, Ryland Grace finds himself unwillingly starting a new life. Fitted with a cybernetic neural chip that allows him to meld his mind with machines, Grace has now become the most useful asset in the known universe. He's given protection in the form of Simon, a member of Eden bound in servitude until the end of Grace's contract. Though neither of them can stand each other, they find themselves wrapped up in a fight much bigger than themselves, and are forced to face some uncomfortable truths about what lies ahead.
