House parties have never been Dennis’ thing — and despite the fact it’s because he likes to claim he just hates the intensity of them, the reality is that it’s because he’s so inexperienced with them. Or parties of any kind. His first house party was during his theology degree, and a bunch of deeply religious Nebraskan teenagers experiencing alcohol and freedom for the first time all together had not been a pleasant experience, so it had put him off a lot. He’d tried again in medical school, and the parties had been better then, but with his lack of experience and exposure to them and his lack of interest in making friends with drunk people that he doesn’t know except from through a friend of a friend of a friend… he’s just never really learnt to love them. As much as Dennis would really love to be a party animal, he’s just a homebody at heart, and he’s quite perfectly content to stay that way. Except for when he doesn’t get a choice. Like right now. This is one of those times.
