Fics like Ashes of What We Were

James and Dave have known each other since before either of them knew what love was. They were friends, they were more than friends, they were everything to each other for years, hidden behind locked doors and promises never spoken. Until James's fear destroyed everything. Months later, Dave has a new boyfriend, a new group, a new life. James still has the same room, the same friends, and the same pain that refuses to heal. But when college forces them into the same space again, the wounds start bleeding all over. And Jason, the quiet friend who was always around, starts filling a space James didn't know was empty. Now, James will have to decide whether to stay stuck in the past or allow himself to live something new.
