Fics like When the World was New

The first goal of any foster placement is always reunification. Except…John didn’t seem to have anyone to be reunified with. Jack and Robby are newly married, and have made the decision to become foster parents. Enter John Shen, a foster child struggling with diabetes, who could really use two brilliant doctors taking care of him...as long as they can put aside their own insecurities to be there for him. Can be read alone, but this is also a prequel to Stay Gold--this is Jack and Robby eight years before that. They are less mentally healthy, less emotionally competent, and less experienced being parents. But they're still doing their best.
