Fics like Blurry Around the Edges

He feels it when he catches himself thinking of the other, whether he is plagued by frustrations he cannot pinpoint the source of or mundanely daydreaming in passing, it courses through him like a sixth sense — as often gentle as it is harsh, a tap on the shoulder or a punch to the face, yet always undeniable. A closeness, something more than a feeling but not quite its own emotion, something that Sonic knows has a name but can’t quite recall it, something he feels he should understand but is too embarrassed to admit he doesn’t, something on the horizon that he squints in an attempt to make out, yet it still looks blurry around the edges. Something Shadow has figured out, but refuses to elaborate upon. Rivalry. It had to be.
