Fics like My Mind & Me (We Don’t Get Along Sometimes)

"So…" Lightning sucked in a breath, fiddling with the sleeve of his tracksuit. It might mess everything up, but he had to say it. He had to know. "Does that mean you're staying?" Doc's brows furrowed again at this and he looked genuinely confused. "Staying? I'm afraid I don't follow." "You know, like, uh, well… Like, you're not quitting?" "Quitting? Now, who said anything about quitting? Unless… you want me to…" During a particularly rough race day, Lightning gets trapped in his own panicked thoughts when he thinks Doc might quit. After all, his second crew chief left under similar circumstances. What’s to stop Doc from doing the same…? Written for the Whumptober 2023 Prompt No. 19: Psychological & “I’m not as stupid as you think I am.” (Humanized)
