It’s deeply confusing, emotionally, the rage and love swirling in her, the way her hands want to flex like a cat’s claws against the urge to break a skull apart and the way she wants to pinch her kid’s cheek because her entire issue with a predator’s trap was disappointing her daddy by not demonstrating her jumping, something he only watches in the first place after repeated calls of “Daddy, watch! Daddy, watch me!” She leans forward to kiss Ellie’s head again to buy herself time to get her act together, calming herself incrementally by inhaling the scent of shampoo and Ellie’s own smell. It doesn’t soothe her like a balm the way it usually does, though, not this time. Not when someone wanted to hurt her kid. (after ellie breaks her arm, tess finds out a creepy newcomer has been trying to get her alone) (and then tess Handles It)
