Fics like Some Who Wander Are Actually Lost

When Cal's hand ripped away from his, Lightning fought for enough breath to shout. But none came. A dull thud echoed through his chest when he landed, his body finally coming to a final resting place. Biting back a groan, Lightning shifted until he caught sight of his friend. Cal was out cold, lying in a crumpled heap a few feet away. What was supposed to be a fun, friendly race to the Charlotte Motor Speedway goes horribly wrong when Cal and Lightning’s car breaks down on the side of the road. Things only go downhill from there… Written for the Whumptober 2023 Prompt Nos. 1: “How many fingers am I holding up?” and 7: “Can you hear me?” and the Alternate Prompt: Panic. (Humanized)
