She sighs in relief when she walks through the door on a Wednesday night to find the place practically empty. There’s a young couple at a table in the corner making out aggressively and one other person seated at the bar hunched over a drink. The bartender doesn’t even glance up when she lets the door slam shut behind her which is exactly why she likes this place. It’s a shitty hole in the wall with barely ten tables and next to no lighting whatsoever. It’s perfect for anonymity; perfect for the kind of midweek wallowing she intends to pretend never even happened once she leaves and walks back out into reality after a few drinks tonight. As she perches herself on a bar stool she feels the body a few stools down shift as he responds to her presence. She braces herself for an uncomfortable intrusion and tries to school her face into ice and daggers so whoever Mr Black Shirt is can’t think, for even a moment, that her presence is an invitation to speak to her. But when she glances over she’s met with a familiar face, eyes widened in surprise as they meet her own.
