Fics like pearl diver

"I see myself in you, Marty. It's as if- as if looking at a past version of myself, at the point in my life where I was alone and angry. Where I didn't have an outlet or anyone who saw me for who I really was." Swallowing thickly, Doc's voice trembles, though he's never felt more resolute in his words. "Which is to say... I think you'd enjoy life in 1985. I think you'd be able to find yourself there, to be the person that I know you can be." Their eyes meet, and there's so much weight held behind Marty's gaze that Emmett can't put a name to the feeling of it. This decision feels right, though. Like destiny at play. they'll find each other in any universe. (or: the delorean malfunctions, sending doc to 1885 — here, he finds himself caught in the orbit of marty mcfly, a jaded kid with one too many enemies. even when everything spirals, they stay as one another's constants.)
