Fics like Flat Vinstanley: or, the misreading of Thorfinn

An essay that grew to be much longer than my other ones. Why is Thorfinn considered a "flat" character at first, and why is it a common refrain that he never thinks of his mother and sister, and feels nothing about leaving them in Iceland? That's just not what we're shown. A lot of people also fail to understand what the ritual duel represented in this time, and why Thorfinn considers it so necessary. And, some thoughts on Yukimura's use of non-dialogue panels to tell a story, and why so many people miss key elements of the story by skipping over them.
