Fics like nothing's gonna hurt you, baby

Peter scrambled out of bed, his limbs stiff as he went along with his instincts. When he emerged from his bedroom, wild-eyed and half-awake, he could hear someone rapping their knuckles against the front door, calling for him; it was so weak that he barely heard it, and it was only thanks to his attuned senses that he picked up on the knocking at all. Heart in his throat, Peter padded towards the door and yanked it open. It was Jean. Her red hair was disheveled and her face covered in scrapes. Her complexion was pale, far paler than usual, and she was leaning against the doorway as she clutched at her midsection. ⬡⬢⬡ — OR: Peter took his late mentor's warnings for granted. Now that he had someone to care for the same way Mr. Stark had cared for him, he finally understood what Mr. Stark had been trying to tell him.
