"What would you do if someone you knew and trusted wasn't what you'd thought?" Kaneki asked. "If while everything good about them was genuine, they'd also done horrible things as well." Amon hadn't expected to end up at a gay bar even if on a mission to track down a ghoul. And he certainly hadn't expected to bring someone back home with him even though it was to protect him from being taken by said ghoul. Yet something about Kaneki drew Amon in. Maybe it was the secrets he held closely to him, his insights which cut to the heart of Amon's questions, or even the quiet strength Kaneki carried with him, but Amon knew he'd never find someone like him again. Whatever Kaneki was running from, Amon would be there to put him back together again. Kaneki had intended to track Nico down. He hadn't expected to run into a very familiar investigator while waiting, and when numbers had counted down in sevens and Rize had whispered in Kaneki's mind, he'd taken Amon's hand and let himself to be whisked away from the ghoul who'd triggered those memories. Amon quieted the voices in Kaneki's head and the guilt beneath his skin. Even if it would all fall apart one day, Kaneki let himself cling to the investigator like a lifeline.
