If there was one thing that anyone who has ever known him, from his Bubbe and Zayde to his students and interns, it was that Michael David Robinavitch did not like attention. He wasn't shy-no-he wasn't afraid of public speaking or meeting new people, but what he did avoid was anything that would get him attention of any sort. In high school, he avoided sports teams (though with his clumsiness, it wasn't like he was going to qualify for any) and any competitive-based clubs. Instead he preferred student council, environmental club, volunteering. Small things he could do to help people and not be expected to hear any cheers or hear his name be called out over the speaker. He didn't like a certain kind of focused attention. He liked praise, hated pomp and circumstance. He liked acknowledgment, hated it if it came in the form of a trophy or plaque. He believed awards should be group-based, not individual, at least not for him simply doing his job. Bigger budgets and more staff was a prize to him, not a trophy. Robby had had his luck in dodging questions about applying for this award or that recognition for years. But now, he guessed, his luck had run out.
