It’s hard to believe that the boy before him is 18. He doesn’t look it. Not in the slightest. He’s naïve in the same way the boys who come straight out into the field always are, a little too keen, far too starry eyed, too kind for the men around him. And as he sits here, bleeding, dying, it’s even harder to believe that he’s an adult. He’s so young, so soft, so scared, face screwed up with pain as he clutches at Jack. They’re fucked. They’re so fucked.
