Fics like Discarnate

Through it all, II had seen Vessel’s quiet sadness sitting alongside his pride. How he pushed it down, made himself quiet, eyes lingering a little too long on the girls’ outfits backstage; the delicate jewellery he picked out, reluctant to remove post-show. II had noticed Vessel’s nature, the tactile fluidity of his movement. Something in him sang to a familiarity in his own soul, but Vessel had never spoken on it, and he was so easily spooked when frightened. II had waited, always willing to wait until Vessel was finally ready to face it. “It’s never too late. And you can talk to me about this stuff, Vess,” he said softly, hand lifting to push the hair back from Vessel’s face, the same way he always did when they were curled up in bed, thousands of miles away. “I want to grow my hair out,” Vessel said softly. “I want so many things that I can’t have.”
