Fics like when i open my eyes to the future

He peers down the street and sees a post office, a couple of small shops, and a pub. The difference between the city where he has an apartment and this village is stark. Sam comes out of the shop nearly ten minutes later with a cardboard travel container of drinks. He laughs at something someone inside says and IV wishes – gut-wrenchingly – that he had anything left in him that could feel the way Sam looks right now. He feels like a husk of a person, and he wants – he wants that. A man follows Sam to the threshold of the entrance and says something to Sam that IV can’t quite make out as he opens the car door. He keeps the shop door open with a cocked hip, and IV sits up to get a better look at him. IV, burned out from his corporate job, visits his friends for the summer in the idyllic village where they live. He's expecting to get his head put on straight, not that he'll find love in the last place he expects it.
