Fics like I'm Older and I See it Now

“When mom and dad died…” He shook his head, letting out a breath. “I was so young, and so blindsided with grief. Everythin’ in my life was changin’ too much and too fast. I missed my brother.” Darry put his head down, and Pony quickly continued. He placed a hand on his back and rubbed gentle circles. “But what I didn’t see was everything that my brother gave up so that I could stay with my family. So that I could grow up in my own home. You gave up your dreams, so that I could follow my own. And I certainly didn’t make it any easier for you.” Or: On Ponyboy's twentieth birthday, he suddenly sees Darry and the sacrifices he made for him in a whole new light.
