Fics like A Wound Will Heal, Regret Is Forever

Chip swallowed the pooling blood on his tongue and squeezed his brother’s arm, “I don’t regret it.” Dale tensed. “Dale, I don’t.” “It was supposed to be me,” he whispered, uncharacteristic anger and despair in his tone. “You took a blade not meant for you.” Chip scoffed, “It wasn’t ‘meant’ for anyone.” *** He didn't regret it. Not one second. He would do it again and again and again. Dale hadn't expected the knife to come at him. He hadn't moved out of the way. So Chip got in between. Now, trapped under a collapsed building, courtesy of an escaping Fat Cat, it's getting harder to stay awake. Chip does not regret what he did. Maybe it makes him selfish. And they don't hesitate to come get him. Because they care, just like he does. He'd do it again to protect Dale, or Gadget or Monty or Zipper. Even if he gets a hefty, tearful lecture at the end of it all.
