Fics like welcome (always. forever.)

Dustin lingers on Steve’s doorstep for a good ten minutes before he knocks. He knows Steve’s parents are gone—locked out by the quarantine—but he’s worried somehow anyway. Or maybe he doesn’t want to ruin Steve’s night. He might’ve cared about that, in the beginning. When he does knock, and Steve does open the door, Dustin has this whole plan of what to say. Everyone’s fine, he’ll say, because Steve will think the monsters are back. I’m fine, he’ll say next, because Steve will think he’s dying. Sorry about your doormat, he’ll joke, because there’s blood in the center of the O in WELCOME. Instead, he bursts into tears. ~~~ How we got to S5 Volume 1 (a Steve & Dustin fix-it fic)
