Fics like The Bleak Midwinter

“Um, guys…” Roland turned upon hearing Kevin’s voice waver. The boy stood with his chin tilted, looking up. “I don’t think the sky’s meant to be that colour.” Roland followed his gaze and froze. He felt his grip on Edgar slip as his heart hammered in his chest and his breath caught at the back of his throat. The amulet around his neck had never felt tighter than it did in that moment. Roland opened his mouth, felt compelled to call upon his Lord but couldn’t find the words. The sky was a rich, scarlet red. This wasn’t the warm hue of a sunrise or sunset – Roland would know – this was something far more sinister. ~*~ After finding each other in the Plagueround, Roland, Kevin, Monty and Edgar set out brave the relentless winter and to make it the rest of the way to St. Churnley's. Upon getting there, they are met with a reclusive and jaded Hexmaster Singh, who really wasn't expecting company. (A continuation of 'Waiting For The Thaw' wherein the four boys, all abandoned by their families, seek out St. Churnley's and find the home they need.)
