Fics like The Place She Belongs To

After a catastrophic mistake nearly costs her place at Cackle’s Academy, Mildred Hubble is spared expulsion—but only under one strict condition: she must spend the entire summer under the supervision of the school’s most severe and intimidating teacher, Miss Hecate Hardbroom. What begins as a consequence soon becomes something far more complicated. Within the echoing halls of an empty castle, the two struggle to coexist—Mildred, desperate to prove she’s more than a walking disaster, and Miss Hardbroom, determined to maintain control over both her pupil and her own carefully guarded emotions. But when an unexpected tragedy strikes, everything changes. Grief binds them in ways neither could have anticipated, forcing Miss Hardbroom to confront a tenderness she has long denied and Mildred to find strength she didn’t know she possessed. Over the long, quiet months that follow—through mistakes, lessons, and fragile moments of trust—their uneasy partnership grows into something deeply human: a bond between a lost girl and the witch who becomes her guardian.
