Fics like Callsign: Witch

War has been raging between the Terran Confederation and the Kilrathi Empire for over thirty years. In the deeps of space, highly trained squadrons of fighter pilots face off in battle. Further away from the frontlines, Ensign Mildred Hubble has been assigned to the Black Cat Squadron in Gwynedd System, a backwater planet far from the centres of human-controlled space. Most of her worries come from dealing with her squadron leader, the remorseless Lt. Hardbroom. As the tide tips in favour of the Kilrathi Empire, both Ensign Hubble and Lt. Hardbroom will end up on the frontlines. This story is set in the universe of the Wing Commander space combat simulator games, but with characters primarily drawn from The Worst Witch. No knowledge about Wing Commander is required (or at least that is my intention). Some of these characters fit directly into the shoes of original characters in Wing Commander, and others do not. The story starts at the beginning of Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi, and while elements from Wing Commander are used extensively, the eventual story will not unroll in the same way. Character tags will appear as characters appear with speaking roles in given chapters.
