Fics like I'll Sleep When I'm Dead

In the Land of Monsters, Kai's everyday struggles against horrific creatures and unforgiving terrain created a passive habit of suicidal thought, a habit that didn't fade on his return to the monastery. With all of his support systems in havoc since The Merge, he sees no reason to keep going. Every day is a struggle to find some tiny reason to stay, knowing that one day, he'll run out of reasons. He misses Jay dearly. Maybe he'd be able to talk Kai out of these terrible thoughts, just like Kai did for him years ago, but this person in the monastery isn't the Jay he knows. Is he? A spiritual successor/sequel work to Vyoleya's work, "maybe i'll never sleep."
