Amon spiraled after Mado's death. He threw himself into his work and stayed at the CCG office night after night to escape those memories and the dreams which haunted him. Yet even that couldn't last forever. When he was finally forced out of the office, he came across a small coffee shop by the name Anteiku. He never thought he could become friends with a civilian, but Kaneki Ken proved him wrong. Maybe the simple and innocent life Kaneki led of books, classes, and coffee was the reason Amon continued to fight. Not for revenge, but to protect and shield. Kaneki never thought he'd become friends with the investigator he'd fought in the rain that day. Amon reads the books he recommends him and it's so easy to forget who they really are. But when he's captured by Jason, everything changes. He's no longer the same person he was and can no longer cling to his earlier delusions of humanity. Yet he can't help but reach out to Amon, someone who's already in the world of ghouls, even if he'd kill Kaneki within an instant if he knew Kaneki's true identity. Still, Kaneki yearns for connection and the reminder of the humanity he'd been forced to leave behind.
