Fics like Standing In The Wake of Devastation

A gunshot, an explosion, and James Ironwood finds himself in darkness, buried under the ruins of the city he thought he was going to save. Ozpin’s magic is responsible, unleashed in that moment when he shot Oscar, and now James is trapped in the worst possible future with what seems to be no way back. Stranded alone in the ruins of all he ever cared about, beset by visions of the people he failed, he has no choice but to face the end result of the path he’d just started down. As he learns more and more of what his other self did in this timeline, can he be convinced that any of it was the wrong choice? And if he can, is there any way, even the slimmest hope, of being able to take it all back and try again? (Or: James is zapped forward from the moment he shoots Oscar to the aftermath of Vol8, and gets put in apocalypse time-out to make him rethink his choices. Heavily inspired by Jayce’s Bad Future plotline in s2 of Arcane.)
