Fics like lovers instead

A shadow moves through his blurry vision. It stops at the foot of his bed. “Hi, Bob.” Yelena plops down on his comforter by his feet, afflicted. “So, quick question. How would you feel about sneaking out in the middle of the night to do things I cannot disclose but will go and do anyway, and also would you still like me if I was a worm?” The stream of words slip in one ear and exit out the other, barely registering as he flutters his eyes. He retains enough that his sleep-addled brain manages to provide one simple thought. Oh. This is what having a best friend is like. And then, out of nowhere, two other, more worrying simultaneous thoughts: ‘Why a worm of all things?’ and ‘I’m ruining this friendship immediately.’ Or: RIP Bob Reynolds, Studio Killers sang it better.
