Fics like ants

“You told me,” Peter says, rocking himself like a newborn listening to a lullaby, “that you hear the city like a song. What’s all this sound like?” (If ghosts are real I’ve damned you.) Matt seems to wince. “I’m sorry, Peter,” he begins, and a beast rumbles in Peter’s gut, the part of May that the explosion tore out—some Goblin of his own design baying why should you be sorry? You didn’t kill her. “I don’t hear anything.” (But if they aren’t, I’ve killed you.) Peter puts his hand over Matt’s atop the cupcakes and curls in on himself. (I’ve really killed you.) // May’s birthday comes along for the first time since she died, and Peter tells Matt about her.
