Fics like fresh air

“A building fell on me, too,” Matt says into the silence, words blunt but infused with the compassion Peter’s always seen in him, despite his violence. In the end, Matt Murdock’s an easy man to trust. Finally, Peter processes what he said. His hands spasm. Then: “How’d you get out?” “I almost didn’t,” Matt huffs. His breath swirls into the night air. The shadows seem to engulf him, to exhale the shape of him—in this light he is the aftershocks of an earthquake, the broken result of a violent catastrophe. His left hand grips a wire fence like confessional mesh and the pain seems to be his penance. “Someone—someone I loved died under that building. So I guess in some ways I didn’t.” “Didn’t what?” Peter asks, though he thinks he knows. “Make it out.” // Peter and Matt find themselves in a collapsing warehouse and realize they have yet another thing in common.
