Fics like What it Takes to be Alive

Gerald shows Maria and Shadow what it looks like when Sonic is deactivated in order to teach them what to do in this situation. This encounter plants the seed in their heads about Sonic not being 'alive,' and this point comes up again when Shadow confronts Sonic about letting himself get fatally hurt merely because Sonic doesn't consider himself to be alive, either. It is only years later when Sonic believes he's alive, but then again, it isn't like he knows the truth about what happened in the ARK. - Gameverse, Chaos Heart AU Trigger Warning: Dehumanization (de-hedgehog-ization), mentions of past violence
