Fics like Hollow Places, Warm Hearts

In Jackson, survival isn’t just about the infected—it’s about learning to live again. You arrive in Jackson a shattered version of yourself—angry, haunted, and on edge. The quiet stability of the community is foreign, and though taking a job at the local school gives you a purpose, it doesn’t silence the ghosts of your past. No matter how hard you try to fit in, the townsfolk don’t seem to understand you. Frustration boils over, and when you lash out, you fear you’ve ruined any chance of belonging here. But then there’s Joel. He keeps his distance, silent, unreadable and sometimes downright rude, but something about him feels familiar—like he might understand the weight you carry. Both used to pushing people away and burying your troubles, neither of you quite knows how to handle the weight of all these... feelings.
