Fics like Through the Quiet

14-year-old Daisy struggles to adjust to a new life after the sudden death of her father. Nonverbal and autistic, Daisy has always found comfort in the quiet moments and familiar things, like her love of penguins. Her world is turned upside down when she’s brought to live with Hayden, her late father’s best friend, who has promised to take care of her. Though Daisy is hesitant and withdrawn, Hayden is determined to provide her with a safe and supportive home. He lovingly prepares a room filled with her favorite things, hoping to ease her transition. As Daisy slowly begins to trust him, their bond grows, and Hayden’s quiet affection and patience begin to help her heal from the trauma of losing her father. Through tender moments of connection, including the simple joy of sharing memories and the reassurance of his promises, Hayden proves to Daisy that she’s not alone. Together, they begin to navigate the challenges of grief, change, and the struggle to rebuild a sense of home and family. Hayden has dark ulterior motives, and slowly, but surely, takes his time with Daisy.
