Fics like Awakening Shadows

Logan could see the fear in Bella's eyes as she looked up at him, her body language screaming to be left alone. He knew he had to tread carefully, like a hunter stalking a skittish deer. He flashed her a warm smile, one he hoped would put her at ease. "Morning," he said, his voice a deep rumble. He saw her shiver, but she didn't run. That was a good sign. "Morning," she mumbled, looking back down at the ground. "You're Bella, right?" he asked, already knowing the answer. He'd heard her father scream her name enough times. She nodded, her small hands still gripping her backpack straps like a lifeline. "I'm Logan," he said, holding out his hand. She looked at it like it was a foreign object before tentatively reaching out her own. Her hand was so small, so soft in his. He felt a surge of desire, but he pushed it down, not letting it show on his face. Logan fell into step beside her, keeping his pace slow to match hers. "You live with your dad, right?" he asked, feigning ignorance. Bella's expression darkened, and she nodded. Inspired by: Daisy Chain
