Hope From the moment I could form a prayer, my only dream was to be chosen by the Light Church. At twenty-five, all I have left is a thin thread of hope that there’s still a life worth living beyond this town, so I kneel in the storm-lashed church and beg the Creator for escape, for any door out of this cage. I just never imagined the answer would come with tattoos and hands that knew exactly how to break anything they touch. Levi This grimy town was supposed to be just another job, but the last thing I expected was to find a sweet woman who cleans my wounds with trembling fingers and whispers prayers as though words could unmake me. She thinks she’s saving my soul. She’s only feeding the part of me that wants to ruin hers. My mission hasn’t changed, but every time she looks at me with those wide, hopeful eyes and begs her god for mercy, I wonder how much sweeter it will taste to prove her wrong—to show her that no light, no prayer, no god will keep her safe from what I’ve already decided to take. She prayed for escape. And I will give her exactly what she’s yearning for.
