Fics like In The Wilderness (Joe x Hetfield)

In those days, I was unaware of what weighs on my chest today like a revealed secret, one of those that we would rather not know. If I could go back, if my innocence knew at least a fragment of the truth about my idol... Ah, perhaps it would have been easier. I would have armed myself, perhaps, against the fascination he exerted, a serious, even dangerous power that I could not name, but which I sensed. James Hetfield is not a man of easy smiles or vague gestures. He carries a raw strength, of someone who seems to test the courage of others with the slightest glance, as if asking: Can you stand me? When I finally found out about that — the way he saw things, what he expected of me, perhaps of us — I could not help but ask myself: if I had known before, would I have said no? Or would it have been even harder to say no? But then, perhaps fate had already been set; perhaps I would never have had a choice.
