“Then why the questioning? If I want to and you want to, then it should be a done deal, right?” Maybe. But Gonta… well. Not often with Ouma, because Ouma has made it more than clear how very unafraid of him he is. But sometimes Gonta looks down at his hands and can still feel the phantom sensation of the toilet paper wound around his fingers; sometimes he still hears Iruma choking to death. He knows Ouma remembers it too, and he never says it, but Gonta finds it—difficult, to imagine, that Ouma doesn’t remember it whenever their eyes meet. The way that Gonta does. Unlike everyone else here, unlike Iruma herself, Gonta doesn’t blame Ouma for what happened there. He made his own decision. He unspooled the toilet paper roll himself. But they stood back to back at a time when Gonta was at his lowest, so desperate to be helpful he left one of his friends with lingering trauma, tried to drag the rest of them down along with her. This doesn’t mean that Gonta doesn’t want to live with Ouma, and doesn’t like to spend time with him. It does mean that it’s a bit confusing, that Ouma would want the same. --- Gonta and Ouma discuss moving forward.
