Fics like just another failure on a growing list

It was Darry’s fault he ran away, his fault that Pony was in Pershing Park that night, his fault that he and Johnny were now cooped up in a church in the middle of nowhere, probably scared shitless. Darry looks down at the plate he’s scrubbing clean and notices how much he’s shaking, how his hands are trembling furiously, so much he has to let the plate submerge back into the water. He feels his vision going in and out, blurring and clearing in waves as his eyes start to sting. And he knows what’s coming next, what horrible, embarrassing thing is coming next when his vision clouds and throat tightens. He’s about to cry. - it's been a week since ponyboy and johnny cade left tusla for windrixville, and darry struggles to do anything but blame himself. blame himself for the fact that his kid brother is gone.
