Fics like the hardest part of ending

“I don’t know how to be a big brother,” Crosshair said softly, looking up at Omega from his frozen yogurt. “Or a good brother, really.” “Well, I’m still learning how to be a little sister,” Omega said. “Maybe we could learn together?” She put down her cup and held out her hand, pinky extended. Crosshair’s eyes glanced to hers and back to her hand before hesitantly extending his own, his pinky wrapping carefully around hers. “Deal.” It was hard to pinpoint exactly when everything changed. When Rex went to jail. When Echo moved in. When Dad died. When Crosshair left. For years, Hunter and his brothers have been coasting numbly through life, just trying to survive to the next day. Then Hunter gets a call from social services telling him their mother is dead and they have a half-sister they never knew about, and everything they thought they knew is completely flipped on its head. Ugly truths are revealed as they are forced to confront their past, and one little girl changes the lives of five brothers in ways they didn't realize they needed.
