Alec couldn’t imagine, after kissing Brandon in the hallway during the celebration, driving by his old high school where he used to hear lecture upon lecture about marriage, and chastity, and holiness. Passing his old church on the sidewalk on the way to the 7-11, feeling the phantom sensation of the cold, wooden pews underneath him and the stares of the people around him and the scent of incense burning his eyes. Hearing the little voice in the back of his head that he could never quite silence back home, that said, "maybe they’re right," and, "maybe there’s something wrong with you," and, "maybe you’re disgusting and irredeemable, and maybe you don’t deserve anything good after all." Or, he could imagine it, and it made him feel sick. He swallowed down the nauseous feeling in the back of his throat. “It doesn’t matter.” -- (Brandon goes home to Nebraska with Alec for the first time since they became...whatever they are.)
