Fics like Ankle Deep

2 years after Yuzuru Hanyu’s Sochi gold, he’s at the peak of his fame—beloved worldwide, constantly in the spotlight, and under a lot more pressure than he’d like to admit. When a nasty ankle injury forces him off the ice for two months, his team worries he’s suddenly more vulnerable than ever. Enter Shohei Ohtani, a 21 year-old fresh out of a 3 year contract with the Japanese Naval Self-Defense Force. He’s recruited as a bodyguard, brought in to keep Yuzuru safe while he recovers. What starts as an awkward assignment quickly turns heated: the figure skater is used to being adored, not protected, and Shohei is disciplined, stone-faced, and far too hard to read. But the more time they spend together—late night arguments, stolen glances, and Yuzuru testing just how far he can push—the more that professional line begins to blur. And when it does, it’s not just Yuzuru’s ankle that’s in dangerous territory. A bodyguard AU I’ve thought about for years is finally being written! This is fictional and not accurate to the actual injury itself.
