Fics like Compassionate Friends

“I don’t know why I have to go to this stupid fucking group in the first place.” Ellie slumped in the passenger’s seat of Marlene’s big black SUV. She stared out the window at the evening skyline along the Longfellow Bridge, arms crossed over her chest, lips pressed together in a thin line. “We’ve talked about this, Ellie,” her social worker responded calmly. “For the judge to agree to probation instead of jail time, you need to complete 12-weeks of court-mandated grief therapy, and since you refused to do individual sessions, we had to find a group that would take you. Compassionate Friends is the only one with an opening.” “But it’s for people with dead kids,” she said flatly. Bereaved parents, was the politically correct term that the website had used. (Ellie & Joel meet at a grief support group they were both forced to attend)
