Fics like in the dark

Alastair Carstairs is the best of the best. A barrister at the top of his game, known for verbally eviscerating his opponents. His latest case is tough and high-profile: a young man sued over his inheritance on the grounds that if he'd come out as gay, his deceased grandfather would have never left him a fortune. Alastair is determined to put this ridiculous grab for money to rest. In an effort to discredit him, the prosecution searches for a scandal, and Alastair’s biggest secret is exposed—his friends-with-benefits relationship with Thomas Lightwood. When the news breaks, Alastair's life turns upside-down. The prosecution claims he’s biased, and the media runs wild with the image of a mixed-race, promiscuous barrister. Forget the case, his career is doomed. Despite the chaos, Thomas comes up with a plan: pretend to date, and their problems go away. It seems like a perfect solution. But as they grow closer, things begin to change. Alastair finds himself torn between his head, his heart, and a promise he cannot break.
