Fics like The Firstborn

“You are very young, solnyshka,” he murmurs. “It is a man imprudent who plucks a flower not yet in bloom.” “Likewise, a man who leaves it on the vine to dry,” she replies pertly. There are no plagues in Ravka. No disease, no deformity, no death. The last of the otkazat’sya died out more than two centuries ago from the Great Plague. Only the strongest Grisha survived. To see their people endure, Grisha are matched for marriage by the most skilled of the corporalki order; the datchik. The datchik see the best mates paired to ensure the strongest offspring. Aleksander is the King's firstborn son. He must marry his equal. Alina is the Duke's daughter. She hopes to marry her love. Jaded by the ugly price of utopian ideals, Aleksander does not expect the woman matched as his wife to ever become his compatriot for life. Update 20 May 2026: Nearly a year later, but I finally got there. Enjoy the final chapters. Thank you for your patience 💕
