It’s not until Carla that she understands that some things can be holier than prayer, that finding somebody who bends and curves with her may be the closest she’s ever found herself to belonging and wanting to. She knows she’s never loved like this. Of course, she loves Carla in every infinity they create together, one breath, one whisper at a time, but there’s also something else about the other way they love: in measured frenzy, with speed and with sureness, like each day isn’t promised in a way that makes it feel safe to promise whatever forever is left. There’s heat, and there is passion like she’s never known it before. It feels like dancing in the flicker of perfect flame, like making love while their world unmakes itself all around them until they’re all that’s left, until Carla is all that matters, that look in her eyes and the way they fit together enough to give her breath and take it away all at once. (Or, the five times Daniela realizes how much she wants this, wants them, and the one time Carla feels it, too. The one time she does something about it for the both of them.)
