Fics like all i've ever known is how to hold my own

Daniela tells herself everything is going to be okay. After weeks of couch surfing with cousins and friends who already made their way from Puerto Rico to the United States, she’s finally found her own place. It’s pretty much a shoebox, the smallest unit in the building with an unfortunate location right by the staircase, but it’s her own. She’s barely twenty-five, but after years in Vega Alta, after tragedy struck and all that was left of her mother’s hopes for a better life was her eldest daughter, she’d filed a form to come to Nueva York. Supposedly, it’s where dreams come true. (Or, a Daniela character study from the moment she arrives in Washington Heights to the days just before she's about to leave, all of the moments where she learns what it is to be okay, how to find the people that make it okay, and how it feels to be so much more than just that.)
