It starts as a joke. One he carries on a little too long maybe, sure, but a joke nonetheless. He knows Wilbur is in a dangerously bad mood, but there have been so many times he had pulled similar moods to something better by pressing with jokes until it finally got through and he could make his brother laugh again. He doesn't see how it could fail, doesn't see why this time would be any different, doesn't even stop to consider that Wilbur's dangerous mood may take advantage of trouble when Tommy manages to find it. Why would he? It had never happened before. But there are firsts for everything, and all it takes is placing redstone for everything to go wrong.
