Fics like I’m Not Him Anymore, Am I?

Day 5: Enemy to Caretaker | Imposter Syndrome | Haircut | “I always make things worse.” Steve Rogers knew Bucky Barnes. He didn’t know the Winter Soldier. He didn’t know this killer— this thing, this machine— his friend had become. He would never hold it against Bucky though, the man had suffered a lot and deserved far better. Steve would give it to him. He’d try his hardest to anyway. He’d have to if he wanted to manage to help Bucky. Whatever HYDRA had done to him— Steve knew the basics but not the true extent those monsters had gone to, and he wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to, it was bad enough seeing the aftermath of their torture, let alone seeing the torture itself— had left scars beyond the physical ones now painting Bucky’s skin. Scars would never fully go away, Steve knew that, likely more than most. But he’d help Bucky smoothe the scars enough to the point where they didn’t tug and yank and hurt. He owed him that much.
