Fics like Things Seldom Seen

Seldom Seen Is a small fronteir town inhabited by large, digitgrade fluffy creatures called "Hiverbeasts". Creatures created to inhabit the cold, other species are seldom seen here, and the town itself receives only the occasional human vistor in the form of transient mountain men or lumberjacks. Datil is one of these creatures, amber furred and sheltered from life outside of Seldom Seen, she spends her time taking up her mother's craft and dreaming about what sorts of things exist beyond her little valley's frozen peaks. One day, unexpectedly, a human arrives. Someone much different than the usual fare, a human of unusual size and curious temperament; with two pack burros in toe. A human who fit no archetype for Datil. "Newt" was his name, this human intrigued her; and upon learning of his foolhardy plan to cross a high mountain saddle on the brink of a harsh winter, she decides to take matters into her own paws to keep him there.
