Fics like To Live A Life

Alfred Pennyworth has spent millennia watching lives from a distance. A Lord of Order accustomed to measuring civilizations, systems, and worlds, he decides that observation is no longer enough. He will live one human life from the inside, experience whatever it has to offer, and return when it is done. Then he meets Thomas and Martha Wayne. One year becomes another. A position becomes a home. Bruce is born, and for the first time Alfred is known by someone who has never understood him as anything except Alfred. When Thomas and Martha die, Alfred makes a choice before he realizes he is making one. He stays. Decades later, another Lord of Order comes to Wayne Manor and finds Alfred exactly where he left him: preparing dinner, maintaining schedules, tending injuries, remembering birthdays, and bringing order to the impossible chaos of a family that has grown far beyond the little boy Alfred once brought home from a police station. To Alfred, there is nothing small about that.
