Fics like Heartbreak Boy

Jake spent his whole life learning what he was supposed to want. A good relationship, a nice girlfriend, a family that is proud of him. He checked every box and still ended up at twenty-two, alone in a new apartment with his dog, wondering how long you can live for other people before you forget how to live at all. Then there’s Jay. Free with himself and his feelings, Jay is the reason Jake moved cities in the first place, chasing a version of himself that looked a little more like him. Now Jay has made himself at home in Jake’s entire life, and is painfully, hopelessly in love with someone else, all while looking at Jake like he’s the one who hung the stars. or: Jake spends three chapters learning how to want things for himself, and being jealous of Jay’s crush for entirely selfless, protective, absolutely-not-romantic reasons.
